Dollars to Donuts: If we had 100% deterministic loot, the complaint would be time gating
There really is a middle ground, but I keep seeing people suggest just removing RNG from loot. We had that. It was PVP vendors, and we knew exactly when we would get loot. You could put it on a calendar. In today’s climate, however, if you got loot based on the calendar, you better believe that people would claim that Blizzard was just doing that to get more subs. There would be entire threads based off this one guy who’d compute exactly the number of times you’d need to subscribe to get a full set.It would be bonkers. Equally bonkers to crazy amounts of RNG loot. The new system, due to the downsides, create a soft cap on luck. Imagine if you could only equip one or two TF pieces. That’s what this system is. In about four weeks, you are very very likely to have the “right” bonus on at least one slot. By the time you can safely equip a second, you’re very likely to have a second. O and because the amount of corruption is directly tied to the bonus, you can “get there” with three minor upgrades or one big one etc. It’s really all going to be fine.
