Improved Character Customization Hopes & Dreams - Night Elves
All current customization tabs will be listed in bold. All new concepts for customization tabs will be listed in bold italics.F or M will be used to distinguish whether said customization tab is for female or male night elves, respectively.Skin Color (F/M) - add more skin colors that lean toward dark violet, right now most of the night elves' skin colors look too pink or pale. Separate the Night Warrior skin color from the eye color (the two are not linked lore-wise; Tyrande's skin color confirms this).Face Style (F) - add more faces that convey expressions other than "happy and bubbly 24/7!" Give me some faces that aren't smiling constantly. At this point, night elves are the most depressed race on Azeroth. Give me some vigilant, cunning, enigmatic, wise, and even wrathful-looking faces!Face Style (M) - male night elves only have 2 faces that weren't purposefully designed to look so utterly terrible that they’re completely unusable. Normally I wouldn’t advocate to have a feature removed when more could be added instead, but please go back through their horrendous-looking face options and fix them. Beyond that, add more smooth, youthful-looking faces. The night elves have spent the past 10,000 years never aging past their prime; they shouldn’t look senile at all.Hair Style (F) - MORE LONG HAIR PLEASE! Add hairstyles that are WILD and FERAL! Curly, wavy, messy hair that has leaves caught in it, or flowers decorating it! Do absolutely anything other than "cute human girly-girl haircuts". No more pigtails!Hair Style (M) - add more wildly-wavy and curly hair styles, ones with leaves and twigs and flowers and even feathers caught in the locks. In addition, add some more short-haired, basic-looking hair styles. Many of the short-haired hair styles male night elves currently have are ponytail styles.Hair Color (F/M) - add black hair, gray hair, and more shades of violet & blue (if the only feature of Shadowlands was giving regular night elves access to black hair, it would already be a massive success).Facial Hair Style (M) - add more LONG facial hair styles, great bushy beards like Malfurion’s. Night elves live for ages, and they can spend ages growing out their facial hair. On the other hand, it would be nice to also have some shorter beard styles that aren’t so… awkward and patchy.Marking Style (F/M) - we have about 4 sentences of lore regarding night elf facial markings, and it amounts to pretty much nothing thanks to Elegy’s description of them. Thanks a lot. What we do, or did know about facial markings is that they were a rite of passage, so there’s no reason they would be exclusive to women, as they are in the game currently. In fact, in Warcraft 3, male night elves were the only ones to have facial markings; no female units had them at all. Add marking selection to male night elves, and add more marking styles that symbolize important events in recent night elf history, markings to honor Ysera, Teldrassil, Elune, maybe even the Alliance.Marking Color (F/M) - allow marking color to be customized outside of hair color. Add more colors in general, especially black.Eye Color (F/M) - add selections for silver eyes (most common night elf eye color, currently female-only), amber eyes (indicates strong druidic potential, currently male-only), light blue eyes (pre-Night Warrior Tyrande had them), bright green eyes (Maiev has them), emerald-colored eyes (Malfurion has them now, for some unexplained reason), and purple eyes (in the non-canon RPG books, Delas Moonfang was said to have purple eyes. This could be made canon, with new lore revealing that purple eyes are a common feature among the Highborne and those descended from them).Eyebrow Style (F/M) - Male night elves can currently customize their eyebrow style (albeit only through changing their facial hair style, which should definitely be changed), and female night elves should be able to as well!Ear Style (F/M) - add ear styles that are different shapes and lengths. Some people prefer to portray their night elf characters with shorter ears than the ones they have in-game, and there are several variances in shape too. Most notably, ears that are upturned at the ends may be a common feature among the Highborne (using the Nightborne as evidence).Scar Style (F/M) - It speaks for itself. Blade scars, burn scars, etc. If they're on the face, they could even affect the visibility of the markings, cutting through them and disturbing the patterns.Accessory Style (F) - Elunarian necklaces, circlets, earrings, etc. Gauged ears and hunter and druid-themed accessories as well. Highborne jewelry! A necklace with a nightsaber canine would be neat too. "When a night elf's mount perishes, it is custom for the rider to keep one of the saber's great fangs as a token of remembrance." - Mount description for the Darnassian Nightsaber.Altogether, this setup gives both male and female night elves 11 separate customization tabs. I want to highlight the importance of adding more Highborne aesthetics to the playable night elves. The lore behind the Highborne of Eldre'thalas is very scarce outside of the reason why they left the doomed city. If the night elves are going to defy their core values and allow the practice of arcane magic back into their society, then they might as well have something to show for it! /shrugThanks for reading, and share your own ideas below!
