Another piece of WoW history has been recovered
Greetings! We were going through old beta screenshots in our Alpha Project Discord (a project that is recreating the 0.5.3 version of the game and also archiving and preserving alpha and beta WoW resources) and noticed that some of them showed what appeared to be like a primitive Auction House. The primitive Auction House, named \"Autotrade\"At first we thought that this was indeed official, but after a while we concluded that Autotrade was a player created AddOn that was extremely popular during beta days. It was so popular, that it's even mentioned in John Staat's The WoW Diary. The WoW Diary, page 281As you can read, turns out that this AddOn was most likely what convinced Blizzard to implement the Auction House as we know it today. After this discovery we NEEDED to find a copy of that AddOn, of course. I initially spent a couple of hours trying to find it with no luck; thankfully a member of the Discord started to investigate as well and found that Autotrade was part of an UI Pack called Cosmos (also known as EScript before March 2004).With this in mind, the search started to narrow further and... we don't only found the Autotrade AddOn but also found 27 full CosmosUI packs ranging from different dates between early 2004 and 2005! I have already started to port some of those AddOns to the 0.5.3 client, you can find those ports here.We are really happy to have found this historical AddOn, game preservation is important (that's what Alpha Project is about at the end of the day).---Do you remember this AddOn or the CosmosUI AddOn pack? Do you have any alpha and/or beta resource to share? Contact us! :)
