Some interesting interactions in the KSM changes on the PTR
For those who haven't read, here is an overview of the changes.Folks have mostly been talking about the +15 on both Fort and Tyrannical, but that's not really what I'm interested in. I actually think there are some interesting implications in the post that will make getting KSM way easier next season compared to this one.Underleveled runs contribute to KSMThis one is really nice. Because it's keyed off Mythic+ score, which you'll be earning for every dungeon you complete, you can actually reach KSM with underleveled runs like +14 and +13. If you push into high keys like 16/17/18 on certain dungeons, you'll be able to reach KSM even if you have a few 14s as well.Pushing higher keys contributes to KSMRight now, every key you do above +15 is meaningless. All KSM cares about is timing a 15 of that dungeon. Timing a 16 or 17 doesn't matter. In 9.1, you can run your key up as much as you want and it will still contribute to your KSM.Keys you didn't time contribute to KSMRight now, if you have a near miss by a minute or two, that's it. You failed. No credit. Under the new system, whiffing your +15 will still contribute score to your KSM progress.Keys that you absolutely dominate contribute more to KSMRight now, if you completely crush a key and two chest it with plenty of time left, that doesn't matter for KSM. Completing the key with 1 second on the timer and with ten minutes on the timer are considered the exact same. In 9.1, you'll get more score for quicker runs.Any dungeon can contribute to KSMRight now, as soon as you time that Mists 15, you're done. You never need to run Mists ever again for KSM. In 9.1, though, running another Mists 15 can still contribute to KSM. If you beat your previous time? You get more score towards KSM.No dungeon will hold you back from KSMRight now, if your last dungeon is De Other Side and you just can't roll a DoS 15 key? You're out of luck. There's nothing you can do to get KSM except run more keys that don't contribute and hope that you'll roll a good key afterward. Under the new system, as long as you're pushing your limits, you'll get closer and closer to KSM. Rather than completing 14s just to hope to roll the right 15, you can just push a key as high as you possibly can and still get closer and closer to KSM.I think overall, it'll be much easier for players to get KSM because way more of the keys that they're running are going to increase their score. And this is how it should be. There are a lot of ways to show that you're getting better and better at M+ as you go and the new system will reward that stuff while the current system doesn't.This is very good and I'm excited for the changes to hit live.
