So what was the point of the siege anyway?

Was it to gain naval superiority? Because if that was the goal couldn't they have just pressed the button and left?It feels like all the Alliance accomplished was putting a more competent leader of the Zandalari throne and freezing Mekkatorque.I mean the whole point of a siege is the idea that you would capture the city you are besieging. But the Alliance was just "Welp killed the king, time to go home." So they gained literally nothing from this.I feel bad for Alliance players. Even when they win they lose. I remember Ion marketing this as the Alliance's fistpump moment but this siege seems to be a total failure.
