Remember Activision-Blizzard is a corporation. Avoid falling into the parasocial relationship trap.
Parasocial relationships are one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence. Parasocial relationships are most common with celebrities, organizations or television stars. One of the interesting things that has become evident during this entire scandal in the melding of parasocial relationships, consumption and views on morality. This has become very evident in comments like that of Alex Klontzas, scolding the paying customers for expecting a quality product and accusing the player base of being part of the problem.I've noticed that this is especially prevalent in gaming, where fans invest a lot of mental energy around gaming companies. This is intended, because these corporation have a vested interest in being personified. But they aren't people. Sure they are made up of people but at the end of the day it's a company selling a product. I can't stress how one sided this relationship is and that it's essentially transactional. There could be a lot said about how consuming (or deciding to no longer consume) has become viewed as a moral act. I personally don't think it is, but I know a lot of people do. I think that pragmatism in relationship to the product should be the consumer's primary concern.
